COMMUNITY PROFILE
Pinayun-an is one of the 6 sitio’s of Barangay Bato. It is approximately 5 kilometers away from Barangay proper and approximately 10 kilometers from Poblacion, Mabinay. There is no electricity nor enough water supply. Common sources of water include natural spring, streams and rivers that are approximately 500 to 900 meters away from the residents' home.
Pinayun-an is a highland of natural beauty spot that assuredly everyone will appreciate. It is mainly hilly and evidently curves and peak in its semblance. The vicinity is perfect for mountaineers and nature lovers who want to explore and see the beauty of green rice meadows and sugar cane fields in Mabinay that are overlooking from the top. With its fresh air and innate scents of the highland, it is already a beauty spot on its own. Pinayun-an also have wonderful streams with natural flowing water, green trees and grasses making it pleasing in the eyes of both the residents and tourists alike.
Two of the festivals celebrated by Pinayun-anons are Karambola Festival and Fiesta sa Pangani. The prior is celebrated every 18th of April while the latter is celebrated every 3rd Saturday of October.
Common delicacies in Pinayun-an include Kamoteng Balagon and Apara. These are root crops that are easy to be propagated in the area. These are usually the food that residents served to the guests. Indeed, these are part of their meals because of its richness in carbohydrates.
Aside from farming, most of the families’ source of income is from waving and selling Amakan--- a product that natives discovered from Bamboo grass, of which is very abundant in their place. During “hunger season”, usually from June to August, Pinayun-anons will work as laborers of the big landowners in proper Bato. Some of the families would even send their children to work as domestic helper in big cities like Dumaguete, Bacolod, Cebu, and Manila.
